Install and activate your eSIM

Ten minutes on Wi-Fi before you fly is all it takes. Step-by-step install for iPhone and Android, plus how activation works when you land.

Before you install

  • Be on reliable Wi-Fi (or stable data) — the install downloads your eSIM profile.

  • Do it before you travel, from home or the airport lounge, not the taxi rank at arrivals.

  • Have your QR code ready — it's in your Globeelink dashboard under My eSIMs.

  • Install once — an eSIM profile is single-use. Don't delete it from your phone after installing; if something looks wrong, contact support instead.

iPhone — install by QR code

  1. Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) → Add eSIM.

  2. Choose Use QR Code and scan the code from your Globeelink dashboard (shown on another screen, or printed).

  3. Follow the prompts. When asked, label the new line something obvious — "Globeelink Japan", say.

  4. Keep your default line (calls, iMessage) on your home SIM, and set Mobile Data to the new eSIM for your trip — you can flip this on arrival instead.

On the same device you can also use the manual option: choose Enter Details Manually and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your dashboard.

Android — install by QR code

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet (Samsung: Connections) → SIMs / SIM manager.

  2. Tap Add eSIM / Download a SIM instead? and scan your QR code.

  3. Confirm the download and give the line a clear name.

  4. Leave it off until your trip if you prefer — enabling it on arrival takes one toggle.

Menus differ slightly by manufacturer (Pixel, Samsung, and others each word it their own way), but the flow is the same: add eSIM → scan → confirm.

On arrival — three switches

  1. Enable the eSIM line (Settings → your travel eSIM → turn on).

  2. Set it as your mobile data line.

  3. Turn data roaming ON for the eSIM line only — travel eSIMs need it; your home line's roaming can stay off.

Give it a minute to register on the local network. For most plans, validity starts when the eSIM first connects at your destination — so installing early costs you nothing. If you booked a trip with a scheduled start date, the plan activates on that date instead.

If it does not connect

  • Toggle Airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone — this fixes most first-connection hiccups.

  • Check data roaming is on for the eSIM line and that it's selected for mobile data.

  • Try selecting the network manually: Settings → the eSIM line → network selection.

  • Check your dashboard — it shows the eSIM's live status and the exact network details for your plan.

  • Still stuck? Open the chat: GlobeeBot has destination-specific fixes, and a human can take over.
